2.4- Pentanedione complexes

IR spectra of the 3-cyano-2,4-pentanedionate complex (Zr(3-CNacac)3Cl suggest that one of the three cyano groups is coordinated to a second Zr atom, thus increasing the coordination number of zirconium to eight. Coordination of one of the cyano groups also occurs in the dichloro complex Zr(3-CNacac)2Cl2.254... 

Beryllium has been determined [764] in non saline waters and in sea water at oceanic levels of 2.30pM. Two ml of 0.1M EDTA, 2ml of 1.0M sodium acetate, 1.0ml of benzene and lOOpl of l,l,l-trifluoro-2-4-pentanedione were added sequentially to 150ml samples. Following liquid-liquid extraction using detailed handling procedures, the organic phase was mixed with 1.0ml of 1.0M sodium hydroxide (de-emulsifier), washed several times with distilled water and the resultant beryllium l,l,l-trifluoro-2,4-pentanedione complex analysed by gas chromatography with electron capture detection. 

Infrared spectra (in KBr) show bands at —1510 and —1595 cm-1 characteristic of metalloporphyrin 2,4-pentanedione complexes 10...

Conclusive proof comes from an investigation of the unsymmetrically deuteriated bis-2,4-pentanedione complex of zinc. The carbonyl resonance of this complex is a single peak and no splittings were observed. This shows that the anion of the zinc complex is a symmetrical single energy minimum and confirms the conclusion that the enol is a rapidly equilibrating mixture of [12a] and [12b].
