Penning vacuum gauge (vacuum technology) An ionization vacuum gauge in which the electric and magnetic fields are approximately parallel. Also called the Phillips ionization gauge. See also Vacuum gauge.

Under the influence of the magnetic field created by M, the elcclrons travel a long spiral path between the body and the anode. The current, which arises from electrons and positive ions of the ionized gas molecules, is related to the pressure. The open end (C) is attached to the vacuum system.

The Penning gauge in Example 5.13 is fitted with a baffle (CN2 = 2 L s 1) to reduce gauge contamination, and attached to a vacuum system.

Principal end products of CAB have been for tabulator keys, automobile parts toys, pen and pencil barrels, steering wheels, and tool handles. In the United States CAB has been sued for telephone housings, and extruded CAB piping has been used for conveying water, oil, and natural gas. CAB sheet is readily vacuum formed and is especially useful for laminating with thin-gauge aluminum foil. It also serves particularly well for vacuum metallizing.
