Pendent functionality

A series of cross-linkable copoly(amide—imides) is known to be possible from aromatic diamines and substituted isophthaloyl chlorides containing unsaturated imide rings as a pendent function (13). [Pg.531]

The copolymerization of furan and 2-methylfuran with dienophiles such as maleic anhydride leads to polymer structures with furan pendent functionality. Furan, 2-methylfuran, and 2,5-dimethylfuran have been copolymerized with acrylic monomers (51,52) and acrylonitrile (52,53). The furan ring of furan, 2-methylfuran, and 2,5-dimethylfuran participates as a diene in a free radical copolymerization with acrylonitrile. The initial step for furan and for 2,5-dimethylfuran is the attachment of an acrylonitrile radical at the 2-position, but for 2-methylfuran, the attack is at the-5-position. Propagation proceeds by the attack of the furan radical on an acrylonitrile molecule, to leave one olefinic bond in the structure derived from the furan ring. If this bond is in the 4,5- or 2,3-position, it may be involved in a second additional reaction by the return of the propagating chain. [Pg.414]

As mentioned earlier, CABE prepolymers are synthesized via a simple thermal polycondensation process by reacting citric acid with diol monomers (Figure 16.2 and Table 16.1). Citric acid confers CABEs with pendent functionality for postmodification or concurrent modification and cross-linking. While the elasticity of CABEs mostly depends on the chain length of the diol used, if... [Pg.260]

Pendent modification refers to the modification of the pendent functional groups on citrate-based prepolymers. The modification can be conducted concurrently with (BPLP, WBPLP, and iCMBA) or after... [Pg.263]

Second, the modification of the pendent functionality of CABEs through reactions with amines or amino acids was developed, which can proceed concurrently or after the polycondensation of various CABE polymers, such as BPLP [2,20,21], iCMBA [22,23], and cross-linked meth-... [Pg.265]

Get a new set of R/s by solving the eneigy balances as the lnde> pendent functions of the quasi-Newton technique of Broyden (Sec. 4.2.6). The derivatives of the Jacobian matrix are generated numerically and must include steps 5, 6, and 7 each time the independent variables are perturbed. The Jacobian is not recalculated after the first trial in the loop. [Pg.176]

Graft copolymer formation may occur by a degradative process through reaction between a pendent functionality on one polymer and main-chain linkages (m the second polymer. Small amounts of cross-linked copolymer may be formed if degradable segments of the graft copolymer read further... [Pg.534]

Reagents which can carry pendent functional groups are certain to be expensive. It can be calculated that one costing 10 times as much as NR and having a molecular weight of 200 will add 30 to the price of the rubber if used at a level of 1 mole Reagents used for macro modi-... [Pg.176]
