The impact parameter, b, is defined to be the perpendicular distance between the initial relative path (along g) and the line parallel to g through the force center (b would be the distance of closest approach of the particles, if there were no interaction) the initial angular momentum is just pbg. Conservation of angular momentum 6 is thus ... [Pg.5]

A summary of the steps in the biosynthesis of the porphyrin derivatives from PBG is given in Figure 32-8. The last three enzymes in the pathway and ALA synthase are located in the mitochondrion, whereas the other enzymes are cytosolic. Both erythroid and non-erythroid ( housekeeping ) forms of the first four enzymes are found. Heme biosynthesis occurs in most mammalian cells with the exception of mature erythrocytes, which do not contain mitochondria. However,... [Pg.271]

Figure 32-6. Conversion of porphobilinogen to uroporphyrinogens. Uroporphyrinogen synthase I is also called porphobilinogen (PBG) deaminase or hydroxy-methylbilane (HMB) synthase. Figure 32-6. Conversion of porphobilinogen to uroporphyrinogens. Uroporphyrinogen synthase I is also called porphobilinogen (PBG) deaminase or hydroxy-methylbilane (HMB) synthase.
ALA and PBG can also be measured in urine by appropriate colorimetric tests. [Pg.274]

If the enzyme lesion occurs early in the pathway prior to the formation of porphyrinogens (eg, enzyme 3 of Figure 32-9, which is affected in acute intermittent porphyria), ALA and PBG will accumulate in body tissues and fluids (Figure 32-11). Glinically, patients complain of abdominal pain and neuropsychiatric symptoms. The precise biochemical cause of these symptoms has not been determined but may relate to elevated levels of ALA or PBG or to a deficiency of heme. [Pg.274]

Beside the use of a single enzyme, a cocktail of different biocatalysts can also be used in performing a domino process, provided that the enzymes do not interfere one with another. This approach was used by Scott and coworkers in the synthesis of precorrin-5 (8-61) (Scheme 8.16) [24]. Starting from 6-amino levulinic acid (ALA) 8-60, a mixture of eight different enzymes including the ALA-dehydratase to form porphobilinogen (PBG), as well as PBG deaminase and co-synthetase to furnish the tetracyclic uroporphyrinogen III (8-62) as intermediates, was employed to provide precorrin-5 (8-61) in 30% yield. [Pg.539]

In the foregoing the description of microresonators was limited to the index guiding type. Resonators with the same functionality can be implemented in PBG structures5. In these cases, with the high index contrast used, the cavity volume is even more reduced resulting in FSRs of 10 - 100 nm. [Pg.285]

A novel interesting approach is the use of multienzyme cocktails described by Scott et al. for the synthesis of precorrin-5159 starting from 8-amino levu-linic acid 158 (scheme 32).1871 For the process, a multienzyme cocktail of eight different enzymes including the ALA-dehydratase to form porphobilinogen as well as PBG deaminase and cosynthetase to give the tetracyclic uroporphyrinogen HI (10) was employed. [Pg.60]

Racemic complex (racemic PBG), composed of PBLG and its enantiomer poly(y-benzyl D-glutamate) (PBDG), takes an a-helical conformation in the solid state and has different physical properties from those of PBLG or... [Pg.298]

In this review we focus on the detailed side chain dynamic of PBLG and racemic PBG deuterated at several positions in a side chain by means of solid state 2H NMR. The brief description of the 2H NMR parameters used... [Pg.299]

The temperature dependent T results of racemic PBG-d5 are shown in Fig. 29. As shown in Section 4, T of PBLG-d5 achieves a broad minimum at 80° C, showing that the rate of the flipping motion is as high as the Larmor frequency of 30 MHz at this temperature. The Tx value of racemic PBG-d5 decreases more slowly than that of PBLG-d5 as temperature is raised, and drops steeply around 60°C. The T value of racemic PBG-d5 was found to be same as that for PBLG-ds above 80°C. There is little difference in the T values of both samples even below the transition temperature of 90°C. These differences in... [Pg.326]
