Linus Carl Pauling (1901-1994). American chemist. Regarded by many as the most influential chemist of the twentieth century, Pauling did research in a remarkably broad range of subjects, from chemical physics to molecular biology. Pauling received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1954 for his work on protein structure, and the Nobel Peace Prize in 1962. He is the only person to be the sole recipient of two Nobel Prizes. [Pg.341]
