Patient Counseling Principles

Counselling and education of the patient must include information such as how and when to take their medication, what to do in the case of missing one or more doses or vomiting after taking a dose, likely adverse effects, principles of safe handling, storage and disposal and patient s access to advice and support when at home. 

REPROTOX is useful clinically. It provides succinct, authoritative overviews of the reproductive and developmental toxicity of a large number of chemical exposures, including many important occupational exposures. The system is designed for use by health professionals who are familiar with the general principles of risk assessment and is intended to assist in the counseling of individual patients. 

In short, the same principles apply as in counselling special groups of human patients focus on the needs of the particular animal species (and its owner) to help them make the best use of the medicine.
