Post-mortem examination was done in four of the 10 patients (Patient Nos. 5, 7-9). Brain Al contents of cerebral cortex of these four patients were 0.93 to 1.81 pg/g dry weight (normal 0.14-0.22 pg/g values in patients with chronic Al encephalopathy 0.4-3 pg/g) [65]. On light-microscopic evaluation of the gyrus frontalis superior and inferior, hippocampus, nucleus lentiformis and insula, capsula interna and caudatus, thalamus, nucleus dentatus cerebelli, brainstem, and pons, non-specific changes of some fibrohyalin thickening of the wall of the blood vessels and brain edema were noted.

The WBGT value for the hot environment is compared against a WGBT reference value, which is included in an informative annex (Table 6.7). Table VI summarizes the material presented in the previous discussion. It correlates the changes in oxygen and carbon dioxide partial pressures, showing the pathological causes for the imbalances. In addition, it contains the various diagnoses of acid-base abnormality (using same numbers as in Figures 1 and 2 and Table I). Considering the format of Table VI as a tic-tac-toe set-up, we can label the nine portions by the letters A-I for identification in Table VII which gives examples of various conditions associated with such blood gas abnormalities (20-30).

Free-radical generation occurs normally in the human body, and rates of free-radical generation are probably increased in most diseases (see Table 13.1). Their importance as a mechanism of tissue injury is still uncertain, largely because the assays used to measure them have, until recently, been primitive. The development of new assays applicable to humans (such as the assays of oxidative DNA damage described above) should allow rapid evaluation of the role of free radicals in disease pathology and provide a logical basis for the therapeutic use of antioxidants. The numerical evaluation of definite integrals can be carried out in several ways. However, in all cases it must be assumed that the function, as represented by a table of numerical values, or perhaps a known function, is well behaved. While this criterion is not specific, it suggests that the functions haying pathological problems, e.g. singularities, discontinuities,..may not survive under the treatment in question.
