2 Particulate Matter from Forest Fires and Screening of Sunlight 

The total production of 2-4 x lO g of particulate matter from flie burning of 10 km of forests is comparable on a volume basis to the total global production of particulate matter with diameter less than 3 microns (pm) over an entire year (or 200 00 million tons, 13). The physical and chemical nature of this material has been reviewed [14].
