Partial-Depth Impregnation

Even thongh the extensive research programs have been realized the full-depth of PIC, it did not become a commercially applied material because of technological difficnlties in sitn. Its nse is limited to partial-depth impregnation and to relatively small elements produced in pre-cast plants, for example, power transformer boxes are made of PIC thanks to its low dielectric constant and low creep. Fibre reinforcement is also nsed. [Pg.470]

Partially impregnated concrete, which is also called snrface impregnated concrete, is usually accomplished by a simple soaking techniqne. The main objective of partial impregnation is to obtain an in-depth protective zone of reduced permeability on the surface of the concrete. Thus, improvement in dnrability rather than strength is aimed for by use of partial impregnation. [Pg.135]
