A minor constituent of P. somniferum is the aporphine alkaloid isoboldine (Figure 6.58). Other species of poppy, e.g. Papaver orientale and P. pseudoorientale, are known to synthesize aporphine alkaloids as principal constituents rather than morphinan structures.
