Palmprint

Louise was fascinated by the wet palmprints he d left on the sill. "Excellent. That s a start. Now all we have to do is work out how to get to the spaceplane." Her hand tightened on the new Jovian Bank credit disk in her trouser pocket. "I m sure Mr Furay can be persuaded to take us up straightaway."... [Pg.195]

A Palmprint Recognition System Based on Spatial Features... [Pg.121]

Any human can be recognized based on his/her physiological or behavioral characteristics [1]. Each characteristic should be universal, distinct, time invariant, and easily collectable. The palmprint as a biometric modality is gaining acceptance in the field of biometrics. As compared to other biometric modalities, it is bestowed with enormous information (i.e.. Wrinkles, ridges, and principal lines) serving as its discriminating power. We will discuss a few important contributions made on this modality. [Pg.121]

In this chapter, we will explore features such as sigmoid, energy, and entropy from a palmprint. An effort is made to bank upon on two counts an efficient extraction of region of interest (ROI) and an effective feature selection. [Pg.122]

The following steps outline the ROI extraction from a palmprint as described in [6] ... [Pg.122]

The ROI is partitioned into a fixed number of nonoverlapping windows. From each of these windows features are extracted [10]. We have selected sigmoid, energy, and entropy as our three feature types for trail on the palmprints. While deriving the three types of features, the average intensity and maximum intensity of subimage are required. We will now elaborate on each feature type. [Pg.124]

Entropy is a measure of uncertainty. Hence we use the membership function values of gray levels jiy in the windows of palmprints to compute the Shannon Entropy from ... [Pg.126]

A palmprint-based biometric authentication system has been developed. Three feature types are experimented on the palmprints for the suitability and usefulness of the palmprint-based authentication. Of these the sigmoid features are found to be... [Pg.132]
