Palmityl aldehyde

Some of the yields for various radiolysis products from tripalmitin as a model are 1.6 for palmitic acid and. 04 for palmityl aldehyde. Other yields and those from the monoglyceride ethylpalmitate as a model are listed elsewhere [1],... [Pg.717]

A clue as to the nature of the decarboxylation of serine is given by the experiments of Brady and Koval (55). These workers observed that on the incubation of C -serine and palmityl aldehyde with homogenates of brain, C C>2 was liberated and ethanolamine was introduced into sphingosine. The inference from this is that free serine is not decarboxylated. [Pg.182]

With this catalyst, methyl palmitate afforded palmityl alcohol in 78% yield on hydrogenation at 175° for 3 hrs. Aldehydes and ketones were hydrogenated at room temperature with catalyst that had been activated by heating it at 100° under hydrogen pressure. The same activation can be effected by refluxing the catalyst in cyclohexanol for 4 hrs. during this time 11% of cyclohexanone is formed. Cholestane-3/3-ol, refluxed in xylene with three times its weight of Adkins catalyst (HJS 2), affords cholestane-3-one in moderate yield. [Pg.812]
