Palladium! 11 , addition with nucleophiles unsaturated substrates

Another interesting tandem Michael initiated sequence was developed in our laboratory by combining the conjugate addition of unsaturated alkoxides to alkylidene malonates with a palladium-mediated coupling reaction with an organic halide. In this cydization reaction, an organopalladium species acts as the electrophilic partner of the cydization. This reaction results in the trans addition of the organopalladium species and of the nucleophile across the unsaturation, and therefore, in overall difunctionalization of the unsaturated substrates [66,67]. 

In contrast, unactivated olefins and alkynes complexed to organopalladium species generated in situ by oxidative addition of an unsaturated halide to a palladium(0) complex react intramolecularly with stabilized nucleophiles. These reactions that require catalytic quantities of the metal result in overall difunctionalization of the olefinic or acetylenic substrates. 

The Tsuji-Trost reaction is the palladium-catalyzed allylation of nucleophiles [110-113]. In an application to the formation of an A-glycosidic bond, the reaction of 2,3-unsaturated hexopyranoside 97 and imidazole afforded A-glycopyranoside 99 regiospecifically at the anomeric center with retention of configuration [114], Therefore, the oxidative addition of allylic substrate 97 to Pd(0) forms the rc-allyl complex 98 with inversion of configuration, then nucleophilic attack by imidazole proceeds with a second inversion of configuration to give 99.
