Pair-Wise Comparison of Criteria

When there are many criteria, it would be difficult for a DM to rank order them precisely. In practice, pair-wise comparison of criteria is used to facilitate the criteria ranking required by the Borda count. Here, the DM is asked to give the relative importance between two criteria Q and Cj, whether Q is preferred to Cj, Cj is preferred to Q or both are equally important. When [Pg.316]

Based on the DM s response, the criteria rankings and their weights can be computed, following the steps given in the following  [Pg.316]

Step 2 Compute the row sums of the matrix P as, t, = p, for i = 1,2. n Step 3 Rank the criteria based on the values and compute their weights. [Pg.316]

Five criteria A, B, C, D, and E have to be ranked based on 10 pair-wise comparisons given in the following  [Pg.316]

Step 1 In the first step, carry out a pair-wise comparison of criteria using the 1-9 degree of importance scale shown in Table 6.23. [Pg.323]

Solution Performing pair-wise comparisons of the three solutions, a total of six rules can be generated three P and three NP rules, as shown in Table 7.8. Comparing solution 1 to solution 3, since criteria Ci and C4 are worst for the better solution (i.e. solution 1), the vector elements... [Pg.210]

If n is the number of items (criteria, sub-criteria or alternatives) to be compared with relation to a specific element of the immediately higher level, the total number of judgments required to the decision maker is [n (n - l)/2]. Each pairwise comparison judgment constitutes the element a j of the so-called reciprocal pair-wise comparisons matrix. [Pg.1112]

The AHP engages decision-makers in breaking down a decision into smaller parts, proceeding from the goal to criteria to sub-criteria down to the alternative courses of action. Decisionmakers then make simple pair-wise comparison judgements throughout the hierarchy to arrive at overall priorities for the alternatives. [Pg.220]
