Chitosan, which is a biologically safe biopolymer as well as an antioxidant, has been proposed as a bioadhesive polymer and is of continuous interest to us due to its unique properties and flexibility in a broad range of oral applications reported by others and recently by us. 

A novel approach to drug-delivery systems using chitosan/antioxidant hydrogels to achieve and sustain a complex delivery profile has been evaluated using additional methods to improve the properties and performances of conventional therapeutic agents such as NY statin [41]. Furthermore, to incorporate widely available antioxidants as built-in mechanisms to fight free radical damage, as well as the incorporation of BSA water-soluble protein as a built-in detector of free radical formation and simultaneous release of antioxidants as free radical defense mechanism [34].
