As a consequence of the flexibility in juxtaposing the bilayers, three distinctly different channel motifs, a, fl, and y, have been observed in the orthorhombic DCA complexes. In all three motifs the channel is delineated by what may be simply described as two pairs of parallel walls. One pair comprises steroid ring a and part of ring B, and the other the molecular side chain and ring D.
