Packed flooding

An adequate vapor rate produces a pressure drop greater than 0.1 inch of liquid per foot of packing. Flooding occurs when the pressure drop exceeds 1.3 to 2.5 inches of liquid per foot of packing. At high vapor rates, the liquid cannot flow down the column. [Pg.299]

The results at 75°C are consistent with results of steam foam sand pack floods reported by Muys and Keizer [63]. They observed lower sand pack permeability with increased AOS carbon number. Isaacs et al. reported similar results [64]. [Pg.410]

A packing pressure drop of 1.5 in/ft is approximately 95% of column packing flood. At 2.0 in/ft of pressure drop DP, most random packed towers are at the flood point. It is thus prudent and good practice to keep the limiting D, at 1.5 in/ft or less. [Pg.113]
