Oxycodone headache

Opioids and derivatives (e.g., meperidine, butorphanol, oxycodone, hydromorphone) provide effective relief of intractable migraine but should be reserved for patients with moderate to severe infrequent headaches in whom conventional therapies are contraindicated or as rescue medication after failure to respond to conventional therapies. Opioid therapy should be closely supervised. 

Other side effects of oxycodone can include nausea, dizziness, vomiting, itchy skin, weakness, and headache. Oxycodone should not be given to patients... 

Aspirin is not often used for acute surgical pain due to its inhibition of platelet aggregation however, it may be prescribed after minor surgery either alone, or in combination with an opioid analgesic such as oxycodone (trade name Percodan"). A common dose would be 1-2 tabs PO Q4h as needed. The combination of butalbital (a mild barbiturate), caffeine, and aspirin (trade name FiorinoT ) is approved for use in nonvas-cular headache and has been used to treat postdural puncture headache. 

Observational studies In patients with moderate to severe cancer pain taking OxyContin (controlled-release oxycodone hydrochloride), adverse reactions occurred in 25% in the first week and the incidence gradually fell with time, to 12% in the 8th week [132 ]. The most common adverse effects reported in the first week were constipation (26%), nausea (13%), vomiting (6.2%), dizziness (5%), and lethargy (3.7%). Other effects included dysuria, fatigue, headache, pruritus, and thirst. There was a similar pattern at 8 weeks. Five patients had delusions after dosage reduction or withdrawal, and another had delirium on days 2 and 3. The authors suggested that the adverse effects of OxyContin could be reduced with preventive medication.
