Oxidative polymorphism, poor

Al-Hadidi HF, Irshaid YM, Rawashdeh NM. Metoprolol alpha-hydroxylation is a poor probe for debrisoquine oxidation (CYP2D6) polymorphism in Jordanians. Eur J Clin Pharmacol 1994 47 311-314. [Pg.637]

Defective oxidation. Variation in response to some drugs can be attributed to genetic polymorphisms involving oxidation of their carbon centres (see Metabolism p. 112). The condition was recognised by abnormal metabolism and response to a standard dose of debrisoquine. Individuals may be classed as extensive or poor oxidisers and the latter are at special risk of adverse effects from drugs whose inactivation is strongly dependent on the defective... [Pg.122]

Sparteine has been used as a marker of the metabohc activity of CYP2D6 (1). Pharmacokinetic studies have shown that its metabolic oxidation exhibits genetic polymorphism and that about 6-9% of the Caucasian population are poor metabohzers. Quinidine, haloperidol, and moclobemide are all potent inhibitors of the oxidative metabohsm of sparteine (2). [Pg.3174]
