Overdesign, failure costs

The relative surface areas of anodic and cathodic surfaces should not be underestimated, because instances of corrosion failure can result firam a combination of galvanic and crevice attadc. Corrosion in a small anodic zone can be several hundred times greater than that in similar bimetallic components of rimilar area. Anodic components on occasion can be overdesigned (thicker) to allow for the anticipated corrosion loss. In other cases, easy replacranent is a cost-effective option, given an awareness by the designo- of sudi information. [Pg.192]
