What causes this problem This is a formalism, so there is no problem. The assignment of oxidation numbers in organic chemistry should not be overly burdened by questions of whether the procedure really makes sense. We equip batch and semi-batch reactors with temperature control that actuates heating and cooling mechanisms per need. In addition to controlling heating and cooling rates, we control reactant addition rate to semi-batch reactors with temperature. We most often achieve fluid level control via weigh cells, either under the feed vessel or under the reactor. We also use metering pumps to control the fluid level in the reactor. Basically, we do not over-burden a batch or semi-batch reactor or process with instrumentation. Because of their simple construction and simple control schemes, batch and semi-batch reactors are relatively inexpensive to obtain and to install. 

Anticipate and engage all stakeholders. There is much at stake in major curricular reform, and many individuals in positions of responsibility, authority, and personal intellectual investment are available to help, or to hinder, if personal and professional relationships are not thoughtfully developed and nurtured. With all on board, difficulties become minor bumps in the road with key players left wondering what is happening, the same difficulties can become insurmountable obstacles. Collaboratively developed materials are likely to transition successfully to the classroom the same materials inflicted on over-burdened teachers are likely to fail.

Limits for several parameters such as mass and volume were still being developed in parallel vwth other reactor and space ship design efforts. Although precise values were not defined, failure to address the limits indicated would result in a design which would overly burden the rest of the vehicle and could even make design of a viable spaceship untenable.
