5 Other Cyclic Diacyl Peroxides. Phthaloyl Peroxide 

Other peroxides which are effective in light emission, and are superficially similar in structure to those discussed do not actually react by the same mechanism. The comparison of these two types is highly illustrative of the diversity of chemiluminescent peroxide mechanism. 

Only the aromatic diacyl peroxides give rise to bright chemiluminescence. Phthaloyl peroxide generates far more light than its aliphatic, hexahydro counterpart [23, 24]. 

In the search for highly exergonic reactions, which might be chemiluminescent, the decomposition of cis-1,2-dihydro phthaloyl peroxide (24) was considered. 

The decomposition of the hitherto unknown cis-l,2-dihydrophthaloyl peroxide to yield benzene and carbon dioxide is expected to release 504kJ/mol [24 b].
