Other Bioluminescent Hydrozoans

The hydrozoan medusa Halistaura (Mitrocoma) cellularia (Shimomura et al., 1963a). This species looks like Phialidium gregarium in shape, but is much larger in size (diameter 5-6 cm). They 

The cDNA for this photoprotein has been cloned and expressed in E. coli, and the recombinant protein obtained was named mitrocomin (Fagan et al., 1993). Mitrocomin consists of 190 amino acid residues with a tyrosine residue at the C-terminus, and has three Ca2+-binding sites. 

Other hydrozoans. Various bioluminescent coelenterates have been comparatively studied in reference to the components necessary for their in vivo luminescence (Morin and Hastings, 1971a Cormier et al., 1973 Shimomura and Johnson, 1975b, 1979b).
