Other Aspects of Chemical Thermodynamics

Until now this Chapter has been concerned with a brief introductory review of the formulae and experimental methods of chemical thermo-d3mamics only from the severely chemical point of view that the sole object of chemical thermodynamics is the quantitative study of the yields of 

As well as the subjects touched upon in Sections 1—10, chemical thermo-dynamicists have many other interests. (It would be easy to justify each of these even from the severely chemical point of view outlined above, but this is left as an exercise for the reader.) Among those other interests are gas imperfections and the study of the interaction energies of molecules through statistical-mechanical formulae phase equilibria, as expressed in two-dimensional sections or projections (or three-dimensional models) of (a T, Im, B,. ..) diagrams the critical state both for pure substances 

All these fields as well as those previously mentioned and those reviewed in the present volume, will be reviewed from time to time in subsequent volumes of these Specialist Periodical Reports on Chemical Thermodynamics. 

Thermodynamic Quantities, Thermodynamic Data, and their Uses 

Theory and practice are so closely interwoven in the study and applications of chemical thermodynamics that it is not easy to divide the subject into suitable sections for discussion. The scope of the present Chapter is indicated by the title, and the headings of the various sections are chosen so as to indicate the subdivisions of the topic which are used for an orderly presentation.

I plan in the second volume to concentrate especially on the thermodynamic properties of liquid mixtures of non-electrolytes, and in subsequent volumes to deal with other aspects of chemical thermodynamics (see pp. 29 and 30) as well as bringing up to date topics previously covered.
