OsO2

Mossbauer measurements with determination of the electric quadrupole moments have been reported in [253, 254,259]. Wagner et al. [254] measured the quadrupole hyperfine interaction in OSO2 and OSP2 of the Mossbauer isotopes The ratios of the quadrupole moments of the 4 = 72 states in the even osmium isotopes and of the 4 = 5/2 (69.6 keV) and 4 = 3/2 states in Os were deduced very accurately. In Table 7.8, the experimental results [254] are given, from which the following ratios can be calculated ... 

The electric quadmpole interaction is described by A q = (c2Fzz/4)(l - -asymmetry parameter rj. The latter was assumed to be zero in the least-squares fits of the OSO2... 

By equilibrating (BF3) the cis/trans isomers of 2-Ph-5-OR-l,3-dioxanes, the conformational free energy differences were determined [-AG° = 0.24 kcal mol- (OMe), 0.01 (OTs), -0.34 (OSO2C6H4-PNO2), -0.48 (OSO2 CH3)] and discussed with respect to the steric and the attractive gauche O-C-C-O effect (92T5941). 

Infrared spectroscopy showed that SO2 adsorbed on goethite to form sulphito (OSO2) species and on lepidocrocite to form sulphate and sulphite complexes (Ka-neko and Matsumoto, 1989). XPS measurement suggested that H2S adsorbed on iron oxide to give both Sg and SH3 as surface species, whereas only Sg formed if the surface had been pre-exposed to water vapour (Prasad et ah, 1993). 

Five-membered Rings with Three O or S Atoms in 1,2,3-Positions OSO2-... 

OSO2, Rh02, Ir02 and Pt02 show similar properties.
