Organocopper complexes addition reactions

A cyclopentadienylcopper-fcr/-butyl isocyanide complex catalyzes the Michael addition of dimethyl methylmalonate to acrylonitrile at room temperature to give an S6% yield of the adduct 249). As the CU2O—BNC complex can also catalyze the addition of indene to methyl acrylate, the intermediate is most likely an organocopper complex. The reactions and kinetic data support the mechanism given by Eq. (118) to (120), involving metalation and nucleophilic attack by the carbanion on the olefin within the complex. Displacement of a solvent ligand by the olefin and coordination of the latter to the copper species are essential features of the mechanism. The rate of reaction is decreased if the compound with the... [Pg.308]

The mechanism of conjugate addition reactions probably involves an initial complex between the cuprate and enone.51 The key intermediate for formation of the new carbon-carbon bond is an adduct formed between the enone and the organocopper reagent. The adduct is formulated as a Cu(III) species, which then undergoes reductive elimination. The lithium ion also plays a key role, presumably by Lewis acid coordination at the carbonyl oxygen.52 Solvent molecules also affect the reactivity of the complex.53 The mechanism can be outlined as occurring in three steps. [Pg.687]

With Lewis acid-organocopper complexes, the question of chemoselecdvity in polyalkenic carbonyl systems was further investigated. The reaction of BuCu BF3 with dienoate (26) led to selective 1,4-addition.641 This result was in contrast with the diorganocuprate, where 1,6-addition was reported (equation 30).64 ... [Pg.182]

Arylation of activated double bonds with diazonium salts in the presence of copper catalysts is known as the Meerwin reaction. The reaction is postulated to either proceed through an organocopper intermediate or through a chlorine atom transfer from chiral CuCl complex to the a-acyl radical intermediate. Brunner and Doyle carried out the addition of mesityldiazonium tetrafluoroborate with methyl acrylate using catalytic amounts of a Cu(I)-bisoxazoline ligand complex and were able to obtain 19.5% ee for the product (data not shown) [79]. Since the mechanism of the Meerwin reaction is unclear, it is difficult to rationalize the low ee s obtained and to plan for further modifications. [Pg.138]
