Organic semiconductor definition

Figure 1.12 illustrates these definitions. From the application and scientific points of view it is clear that knowledge of the electronic band diagram of organic semiconductors, and of any MOM in general, is mandatory. 

The efforts made from both experimental and theoretical standpoints will render organic semiconductors even more useful. One of the priorities with organic semiconductor research is to establish current-injected laser oscillation. This is because it is a definite yardstick for measuring the potential of semiconductor materials and devices. 

A major contribution to overcome the impasse was given by a set of computational studies, which provided a realistic description of the Hamiltonian of the organic semiconductor and helped the definition of the most appropriate approximation schemes. Traditionally, computational studies follow from more formal and phenomenological theories and are used to connect the latter to the realistic systems.
