Organic acids recommended daily intake

The concept still remains valid that the serum cholesterol level depends primarily on the composition of the fats, more exactly on the ratio of polyunsaturated to saturated fatty acids in the food. But according to several authors and to the recommendations of the American Heart Association and other medical organizations, cholesterol intake should be reduced to 300 mg/day in persons with high serum cholesterol levels. Such a dietetic measure seems to be rather important in countries in which the dietary cholesterol intake, due to the eating havits, is generally high, e.g. in the U.S.A., where about 650 mg cholesterol is consumed per day per capita (Dayton et al. (1969)) (36) in other countries e.g. in Switzerland the daily intake is much lower e.g., between about 300-400 mg/day/capita. [Pg.208]
