Operation POLY SURFACE

Attempts have been made to use cold-set adhesives in the cormgating operation, such as poly(vinyl acetate) and modified, precooked starch formulations, but these have not achieved any appreciable degree of commercial acceptance (20). The use of a polyethylene film appHed to the inside surface of the linerboard facing, which serves as a hot-melt cormgator adhesive, has achieved some commercial usage. However, its use is limited to the small, specialty product niche of fast-food hamburger cartons (see Olefin polymers, polyethylene). [Pg.518]

Poly(vinyl acetate) homopolymers adhere well to porous or ceUulosic surfaces, eg, wood, paper, cloth, leather (qv), and ceramics (qv). Homopolymer films tend to creep less than copolymer or terpolymer films. They are especially suitable in adhesives for high speed packaging operations. [Pg.469]

Types of air strippers include packed towers, tray towers, and spray towers. Packed towers are packed or filled with small forms made of polyethylene [9002-88-4] stainless steel, poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) [9002-86-2] or ceramic that provide large surface area to volume ratios which increase transfer rates into the air stream. Packed towers operate in countercurrent mode, that is, the aqueous stream enters at the top of the tower while air is blown in from the bottom. An example of this type of unit is shown in Figure 1. Channeling or short circuiting of the aqueous stream is minimized by... [Pg.159]

A flow injection optical fibre biosensor for choline was also developed55. Choline oxidase (ChOX) was immobilized by physical entrapment in a photo-cross-linkable poly(vinyl alcohol) polymer (PVA-SbQ) after adsorption on weak anion-exchanger beads (DEAE-Sepharose). In this way, the sensing layer was directly created at the surface of the working glassy carbon electrode. The optimization of the reaction conditions and of the physicochemical parameters influencing the FIA biosensor response allows the measurement of choline concentration with a detection limit of 10 pmol. The DEAE-based system also exhibited a good operational stability since 160 repeated measurements of 3 nmol of choline could be performed with a variation coefficient of 4.5%. [Pg.171]

Another specialty area is coil coating, which involves coating metal coils by continuous operation. Modern roller systems afford speeds of up to 200 m/min. Most coils are made of cold-rolled and surface treated steel, aluminum, or alloys of the latter with manganese or magnesium. Coating systems are based on alkyd or acrylic resins, oil-free polyester, silicone-modified polyester or acrylic resin, poly(vinylidene fluoride), or poly(vinyl fluoride). Water-reducible systems, mainly based on acrylic resins, have been developed for aluminum as well as for steel coils [21-24], Drying is carried out by continuous operation in gas- or oil-heated multichamber ovens. [Pg.159]

Full generation poly(amidoamine) (PAMAM) dendrimers possessing amino surface groups are easily spread by spin coating on a mica surface to form films. Interdendrimer assembly events appears to influence these operations. Regardless of the generation levels examined, the film uniformity is determined primarily by the concentration of the dendrimer solution. [Pg.288]

Thus, a poly isobutylene coating on silver halide optical fiber was used for environmental analysis of chlorinated hydrocarbons in water in an instrument designed for operation in seawater 500 m under the surface (Fig. 9.27). The enrichment membrane concept can be used for FTIR-ATR analysis of liquid and gaseous samples alike. [Pg.296]

To get relevant information about active materials, the working electrode is made as similar as possible to the electrode of an operational device. However, current collectors are usually made with corrosion resistant materials, with good electronic conductivity, and no concern is taken about its relative mass. Materials such as gold, platinum, and vitreous carbon are commonly used. The active mass is usually tested in small amounts, mixed with electronically conducting materials, such as acetylene black, and a binder, such as poly vinylidene fluoride PVDF or polytetrafluoroethylene. The working electrode may be flat, with a 1 cm2 surface, for example, a rotating disk electrode (RDE), or a microcavity electrode, or any geometrical convenient electrode. [Pg.11]
