Open-Reed Weaving

Originally, this process was developed in order to add an embroidery thread to the fabric, such as for curtains. Hence, this first variant of open-reed weaving was called stitch weaving. In contrast to the technical variant of the process, in stitch weaving all reed gaps are open on their upper side so that the embroidery thread [Pg.164]

In the technical variant, the reed has closed gaps for the warp of the ground fabric and open gaps for the multiaxial threads. This process can be used to produce four-axial or locally reinforced fabrics (Fig. 4.29). [Pg.164]
