Opacity of pigment

The opacity of pigments is a function of the pigment particle size and the difference between the pigment s refractive index and that of... [Pg.1305]

Cryptometer n. An instrument for measuring the hiding power or opacity of pigmented composition. It functions on the principle that a film or wedge of the paint is obtained with a uniformly varying thickness. By adjusting the instrumentation, the... [Pg.245]

Recrystallization too is attributable to the pigment having a specific solubility in the plastic. As in other media, it is demonstrated primarily in a change of transparency or opacity in transparent colorations and in the depth of shade in white reductions. Lack of recrystallization stability becomes evident for example in the manufacture and processing of pigment-plasticizer pastes and in various polymers at elevated processing temperatures. [Pg.163]

P.Br.42 affords somewhat dull, yellowish shades of brown in industrial finishes, such as alkyd melamine resin systems. The coating shows a certain opacity, the pigment, however, is recommended to be used in metallics and as opaque pigment as well. [Pg.387]
