We thank John Olsen of the Department of Anthropology, University of Arizona, and Professor Wu of the Institute for Vertebrate Paleontology, Beijing, for the Zhoukoudian bone samples. We thank Sandy Olsen of the Institute of Archaeology, London, and Lech Kaminski-Robins for the other bone samples, and Stuart Adams for the IR spectra. The ESR measurements were performed by the University of London Intercollegiate Research Service. [Pg.360]

I acknowledge with deep gratitude the help of all the students who have taken the course upon which this book is based. Special thanks to Drs. David Kronenthal, Tae-Woo Kwon, and John Freilich and Professor Hilton Weiss for reading the manuscript and making extremely helpful suggestions. Many thanks to Dr. James Holden for his editing of the entire manuscript and to my editor, Nancy Olsen, for her constant encouragement. [Pg.476]

Given the strength of opposition expressed at the meeting, it was deemed appropriate to ballot the entire membership of fifty. Thirty-six people chose to vote in the ballot — 22 in favour, 7 against, with 7 neutral votes. Armed with this positive outcome, the Committee of Six decided to proceed to a meeting to set up a new American Institute of Chemical Engineers. Over one hundred invitations to the meeting were issued, but only nineteen attended in Philadelphia in June 1908. Nevertheless, a constitution was approved, and officers elected. The first President was Samuel Sadtler, and John Olsen was elected Secretary, a post he was to hold until 1927. [Pg.20]

It enlisted the support of the great pioneers such as Little, White, Walker, John Olsen, and McCormack Meade (editor of the publication The Chemical Engineer) who apparently deserved special encomia such as that give by John C. Olsen, first secretary of AIChE, when he wrote ... [Pg.9]

We both wish to thank Bernard Muir, John Strom-Olsen, Richard Harries of the McGill University, and Charles Foiles of the Michigan State University for useful and interesting discussions. One of us (E.G.) acknowledges with extreme gratitude the co-operation of Herbert Sassik, Ernst Bauer and Wolfgang Mikovits. [Pg.212]
