Olefins Alpha-olefms

Alfene [Alfa olefene] Also spelled Alfen. A process for making higher alpha-olefms. Ethylene is reacted with triethyl aluminum, yielding high molecular weight aluminum alkyls, and these are treated with additional ethylene, which displaces the higher olefins. Developed by the Continental Oil Company. 

The catalytic system used to make OBCs uses a chain-shuttling agent (CSA) to shuttle or transfer growing chains between two distinct catalysts with different comonomer (alpha-olefm) selectivity." This is shown in Figure 9. Synthesis of olefin block polymer via chain shuttling requires the chain transfer to be reversible. OBCs are produced in a continuous solution polymerization process more economically favorable than the batch processes employed to make styrenic block copolymers. 

A.lpha-Olefm Sulfonates. Sulfonation of alpha-olefins yields a mixture of alkene sulfonates, hydroxyalkane sulfonates, and some amount of various disulfonates. These detergents are excellent foamers with good detergency properties. They are unaffected ia hard water and thek effects are considered superior to the alkyl ether sulfates (9). 

Commercial olefins that are essentially mixtures of aliphatic mono-olefms and that fall within the range of 95 to 165 bromine number (see Note 1). This test method has been found suitable for such materials as commercial propylene trimer and tetramer, butene dimer, and mixed nonenes, octenes, and heptenes. This test method is not satisfactory for normal alpha-olefins.
