The procedure could be extended to the hydrogenation of styrene derivatives, giving excellent yields of the corresponding ethylbenzene derivatives, except for a-substituted and chloro-substituted styrenes. Surprisingly, the chloro-substituted styrenes did not undergo dehalogenation, but some polymerisation was observed.
