Porphyrin octopus

The number of known organogelators whose luminescent properties should be investigated is large and growing. For instance, the previously mentioned rods of metalloporphyrins in cyclohexane might have interesting electron-transfer (and luminescence) properties like those of micellar fibers of octopus porphyrin in... [Pg.308]

The octopus -porphyrin 16, with four long alkyl chains and zwitterionic head groups on both the upper and lower surfaces of tetraphenylporphyrin, binds together in water to form fibres of monomolecular thickness. Only the substituents interact, with a minimal effect on the UV/VIS spectra most importantly the fluorescence of the fibres was strong. Such TPP-derived fibres constitute ideal antipodes to the bilayers whose chromophores are not widely removed from each other. Another consequence of this special environment is the reversible formation of oxygen adducts of the corresponding heme fibres. [Pg.133]

Octopus porphyrin with eight alkylphosphocholine side chains was observed to form a stable micellar fiber with a thickness of 7 nm in water [717] (Fig. 60). Light irradiation to the molecular assembly in the presence of hydrophobic electron acceptor was observed to induce efficient irreversible electron... [Pg.314]

An examination of photoelectron transfer within multifunctional porphyrin and ubiquinone analogues linked by H-bonding interactions which serve to hold the donor and acceptor in a co-facial orientation, has been made, and is the first example of electron transfer between such structures which is complete within the picosecond range.Irradiation of colloidal syn-tetraresorcinolporphyrin having eight alkylphosphocholine side-chains (octopus porphyrin), and of the corresponding Zn(II) complex in the presence of hydrophobic phenyl-p-benzoquinone or hydrophilic naphtho-l,2-quinone-4-sulfonate, induces electron transfer to the quinone electron transfer to is also reported.A study has been made of... [Pg.229]
