Octomeles

Until comparatively recently, Datiscaceae were thought by some taxonomists (e.g., Cronquist, 1981), to consist of four species in three genera, the monospecific Octomeles (0. sumatrana Miq.) and Tetrameles (T. niidiflora R. Br. ex Benn.) and Datisca. Octomeles and Tetrameles are large trees native to southeastern Asia Datisca consists of D. cannabina L., which occurs from southwestern Asia to Crete, and D. glomerata (Presl) Bail ., which occurs in California and northern Baja California, Mexico. [Pg.173]

Several species with foul odors cause problems in wood industries, such as lumber sawing and the manufacture of plywood and laminated wood. A few species contain these components in fresh wood - for example, pyridine and 3-methylpyrro-lidine in elima wood (Octomeles sumatrana) and sulfides in Bawang hutan (Scor-docarpus borneensis) (35). [Pg.853]
