Obstructive sleep apnea case study

In a study of 54 996 children (almost 200 000 patient-years of follow-up) enrolled in the National Cooperative Growth Study (NCGS) concerns were raised to the risk of sudden death [28 ]. Two of 511 patients with Prader-Willi syndrome died suddenly within 6 months of starting growth hormone a 4-year-old obese boy died from apparent worsening of obstructive sleep apnea and bronchopneumonia and a 7-year-old boy died because of pulmonary hypertension and a presumed cardiac event.
