Obsessive-compulsive disorder informants

Extrapolation to other countries is not easy. Canada has a very different health-care system to the USA. A small-scale study involving 466 anxiety disorder patients in Quebec established a clear relationship between the severity of the disorder and utilization of health services (McCusker et al, 1997). Patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder were particularly likely to seek treatment. No information on dmg use was presented.

The title of this article does not correspond with its findings Manic behaviors associated with fluoxetine in three 12-18-year-olds with obsessive-compulsive disorder. The article did present detailed information on only 3 cases but described the occurrence of mania in 6 of 20.

Obsessive-compulsive symptoms during clozapine therapy have been suggested to be more common than first reported (SEDA-21, 54). In a retrospective cohort study, new or worse obsessiveness has been analysed in 121 consecutive young patients with recent-onset schizophrenia or other psychotic disorders taking clozapine and other neuroleptic drugs (86). More clozapine-treated subjects (21%) had new or worse obsessiveness than subjects treated with other neuroleptic drugs (1.3%). However, there was no information on comparability of the groups.
