Object of the avionics launcher

The main objective of the avionics of the Ariane 5 launcher is to independently, despite dismptions, manage all onboard functions that ultimately allow injecting payloads on the requested oibit in the desired direction, with the required accuracy. 

The avionics of the launcher is operational at the ground phase (implementation, monitoring, synchronized sequence, etc.) until the end of the mission, including the release of payloads up until the passivation of the upper stage. 

This avionics is involved in tlie general system functions that can be summarized as follows  

The lehability objective associated with the onboard avionics has been set in the range of 10 to 10 /hour. In addition, a more quaUtative approach set by the FO criterion requires that a single failure of an avionics element must not lead to the feared event loss of mission . 

Although the rehabihty objectives requited for onboard avionics of the Ariane 5 launcher do not require a redundant architecture, a duplex architecture was retained to answer without risk to the qualitative FO criterioa This choice was essentially to guard against failures that may occur on electronic components, wiring, and associated connectors, etc., which may be faulty due to manufacturing defects in so far as all electrical components operate in a severe (fyrtarrtic, thermal, and radiation errvironmerrL
