BIBLIOGRAPHY OF CRYSTAL STRUCTURES OF CARBOHYDRATES, NUCLEOSIDES, AND NUCLEOTIDES ... 

The 1975 literature of crystal structures of carbohydrates, nucleosides, and nucleotides has been summarized by Jeffrey (Upton, N. Y.) and Sundaralingam (Madison) following the procedure used by them in previous such bibliographies, the depictions have been re-drawn by means of computer graphics so as to present the structures in a format that is most readily comprehensible for organic chemists and biochemists. Corrections in the original data have been made where necessary, especially as regards specification of the correct enantiomer. 

Because of automation (computing, and the development of direct methods ), crystal-structure determination has become a more routine laboratory tool for the majority of compounds with less than fifty carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen atoms, provided, of course, that suitable single crystals can be obtained. For this reason, it was decided that an annual bibliography which summarizes the results of application of this method to carbohydrates, nucleosides, and nucleotides and their derivatives would now be of value to carbohydrate chemists. The crystallography of the polysaccharides presents different problems and will not be included this subject was discussed in Voliune 22 of this Series. A bibliography of the structures of 92 carbohydrates and 42 nucleosides and nucleotides studied between 1935 and 1970 has been published. ...

Jeffrey and Sundaralingam have provided a further bibliography of crystal structures of carbohydrates, nucleosides, and nucleotides, and a paper of general interest relates to a survey of 161 published structures of pyranose derivatives. This led to the establishment of average orthogonal co-ordinates. Specific crystal structures have been reported as follows, neutron diffraction studies being identified by the letters n.d. ...
