Nuclear agents protection

Sulfur polymer cement shows promise as an encapsulation and stabilization agent for use with low level radioactive and mixed wastes. Use of SPC allows accommodation of larger percentages of waste than PCC. As of this writing (1997), SPC-treated waste forms have met requirements of both the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). [Pg.126]

Lithium hydride (Li + H —> LiH) is a bluish-white crystal that is flammable in moisture. Used as a source of hydrogen gas that is liberated when LiH becomes wet. LiH is an excellent desiccant and reducing agent as well as a shield that protects from radiation created by nuclear reactions. [Pg.49]

A series of thioethercarboxylic acids (44, n = 1,2, 3 45) have been synthesized by Jones and his colleagues332,333. These chelating agents have been shown to have a pronounced protective action against methylmercury in mice. These chemicals still await screening in nuclear medicine. [Pg.131]
