Sulfinpyrazone NSAIDs

Drugs that may be affected by aspirin include ACE inhibitors, acetazolamide, anticoagulants, anticonvulsants (hydantoins, valproic acid), beta blockers, diuretics, methotrexate, NSAIDs, oral hypoglycemics, and uricosuric agents (probenecid, sulfinpyrazone). [Pg.100]

Drugs that may affect aspirin include activated charcoal, ammonium chloride, ascorbic acid or methionine, antacids and urinary alkalinizers, carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, corticosteroids, and nizatidine. Drugs that may be affected by aspirin include alcohol, ACE inhibitors, anticoagulants (oral), beta-adrenergic blockers, heparin, loop diuretics, methotrexate, nitroglycerin, NSAIDs, probenecid and sulfinpyrazone, spironolactone, sulfonylureas and exogenous insulin, and valproic acid. [Pg.914]

The options available are allopurinol, probenecid (named patient only) and sulfinpyrazone. Allopurinol is the drug usually chosen as a first line agent for the prevention of gout. Colchicine may be given at a dose of 500 micrograms twice or three times daily when allopurinol or uricosuric drugs are initially commenced in order to prevent an attack of gout. NSAIDs may also be used but this would not be an appropriate option for Mr KT. [Pg.264]

Roughly 80-90% of the salicylate in plasma is bound to proteins, especially albumin, at concentrations encountered clinically the proportion of the total that is bound declines as plasma concentrations increase. Hypoalbuminemia, as may occur in rheumatoid arthritis, is associated with a proportionately higher level of free salicylate in the plasma. Salicylate competes with a variety of compounds for plasma protein binding sites these include thyroxine, triiodothyronine, penicillin, phenytoin, sulfinpyrazone, bilirubin, uric acid, and other NSAIDs such as naproxen. [Pg.442]
