Nozzle efficiency limitations

In order to maintain high energy efficiency and ensure a long service life of the materials of construction in the combustion chamber, turbine and jet nozzle, a clean burning flame must be obtained that minimizes the heat exchange by radiation and limits the formation of carbon deposits. These qualities are determined by two procedures that determine respectively the smoke point and the luminometer index. [Pg.226]

The temperature is approximately 20°F below the 265°F temperature limit. The sections differ by less than 1 F. This is probably just luck because that good a balance is not really necessary. Also, it should be noted that to maintain simplicity the additional factors were ignored, such as the 10°F temperature pickup in the return stream due to internal wall heat transfer. Also, nozzle pressure drops for the exit and return were not used. Balance piston leakage was not used as it was in Example 5-3. When all the factors are used, the pressures for each section would undoubtedly need additional adjustment as would the efficiency. However, for the actual compression process, the values are quite realistic, and for doing an estimate, this simpler approach may be quite adequate,... [Pg.183]

Feedstock A higher fraction of 1,050°F+ (565°C+) in the feed. For many refiners, the regenerator temperature is the limit on addition of heavy ends to the feed. High-efficiency feed nozzles can be used. Naphtha quench can be added. [Pg.256]

Figure 1-5 shows a typical feed preheat configuration. A hydraulic limitation usually manifests itself when increasing fresh feed rate and/ or installing high efficiency feed injection nozzles. [Pg.278]

Eggleston, Herrera, and Pish 1976 To provide needed data about the use of air entrained by a water spray to dilute flammable vapor releases below the lower flammability limit. Absorption/adsorption effects are insignificant in the case of ethylene and vinyl chloride. Sprinklers and water-spray nozzles vary widely in their efficiency as air movers. Flame quenching was not affected in any of the experiments Water sprays increased the rate of flame propagation. The air-pumping action of a water curtain can be used to set up a barrier to the horizontal flow of vapors. [Pg.58]

The thermal stagnation zone can happen in the lower part of the droplet layer, over which t(z) has almost reached its possible limit, and so there is no cooling of droplets over the lower part of their trajectories. This means that the density of droplets is too high, and the efficiency of the cooling system can be improved by arranging the spraying nozzles to reach a lesser density of droplets. [Pg.137]

Estimating the efficiency of a nozzle depends ultimately on the results of tests on similar systems, and the manufacturer will supply a figure at the design point, either explicitly or from the thermodynamic data that accompany the turbine flowsheet. However, the control engineer will need to consider off-design conditions, including particularly the sonic limitations that may occur if the pressure drop falls below a critical value. [Pg.158]

In the adaptation of an existing column to a new separation, the point of introducing the feed is limited to the location of existing nozzles in the column wall. The slope of the operating lines and the product compositions to be realized must then be determined by trial and error, in order to obtain numbers of theoretical stages in the two sections of the fractionator consistent with the number of real trays in each section and the expected tray efficiency. [Pg.338]
