Many of the old integrated chemical companies have belatedly begun to make significant changes. ICl has taken steps to reshape itself through its acquisition of Unilever s specialty chemicals businesses and the subsequent disposal of its commodity chemicals. During the nineties UCC transformed itself into a pure petrochemicals player. Similarly, NOVA Chemicals has focused its business on ole-fmes/polyolefines and polystyrene. Over the last few years it has separated out the pipeline business and reduced its stake in Dynegy. DuPont has become more focused on the performance of its individual business units while Shell Chemicals has focused its petrochemicals portfolio radically over the past 24 months.
