Depending on wind conditions, consider evacuation of nearby areas using the North American Emergency Response Guide (NAERG) section on evacuations. Ambulatory victims may see you and approach you. They are likely contaminated with the chemical agent, so you should direct them to a safe place for decontamination but do not approach them or let them approach you imtil you are in at least Level C PPE. A bullhorn (loudspeaker) can be used to direct these patients to the decontamination area. [Pg.56]

The North American Emergency Response Guide (NAERG) recommends a minimal isolation area of 25 to 50 meters (80 to 160 feet) in all directions from a radiation source (Eigure 5.15). It is critical to remain upwind from radioactive material incidents and maintain an isolation distance of 1,000 to 1,500 feet if any explosives are involved. The only certain method to confirm or deny employment of radioactive materials is an appropriate radiation detection instrument used by a trained operator. [Pg.109]
