Nonmetals placement

The placement of metals and nonmetals in the table, it should be noticed, is not random. The nonmetals all... [Pg.802]

The AVEE of an atom provides a quantitative measure of how tightly valence electrons are attracted to and held on to by an atom. One application of this number is in the quantification of the metallic nature of the elements and an explanation of the placement of the dividing line between metals and nonmetals on the periodic table. There are other ways in which the AVEE of the atoms can be used in understanding and explaining their properties, and the properties of combinations of atoms in compounds. These applications will be discussed later when we examine the structure and properties of molecules. [Pg.120]

Students are often confused about the placement of hydrogen on the periodic table despite its common placement in column 1A, hydrogen is a nonmetal. [Pg.252]
