Evaluation of the ICD normally occurs in two settings. At the office visit, interval history, physical examination, and baseline interrogation of the ICD are performed (Table 20.1). At times, more detailed information on the ability of the ICD to terminate tachyarrhythmias may be required and noninvasive programmed stimulation is performed in a monitored setting, usually the electrophysiology laboratory.
