Non-specific hardening

Non-specific hardening refers to instances in which a patient acquires a dermatitis from an irritant and, subsequently, can handle it without developing an eruption. This can take place due to continued use of mild or moderate irritants with gradual thickening and pigmentation of the skin. The hardened skin may withstand irritants, while adjacent unhardened skin remains susceptible. [Pg.415]
