Size, nominal versus actual

Constmction lumber is milled, ie, smoothed, after it has dried to its finished dimensions. These dimensions are less than the nominal size of the lumber which is based on the size of the green wood cut during the sawing operation. Nominal versus actual sizes of constmction lumber in the United States is given in Table 1.
