Nitrogen discovery halides

In 1884, Sandmeyer, however, made the important discovery that in the presence of the corresponding cuprous salt chlorine and bromine are also directed to the nucleus. This catalytic action has not yet been explained. Perhaps a double salt is formed, or else a complex salt in which the halogen is more firmly bound than in the simple halide. According to Gattermann, the cuprous salt may be replaced by copper powder. In general, the decomposition of labile diazo-compounds, by elimination of elementary nitrogen, is accelerated by copper. [Pg.293]

Following the discovery of rrans-Mo(N2)2(dppe)2, 15, by Hidai in 1969, " a series of four landmark reactions in the area of the chemistry of coordinated dinitrogen were reported by Chatt and co-workers over a period of three years. These are (i) the reaction of 33 with acyl halides to form nitrogen-carbon bonds (Equation (ii) protonation of 15 and... [Pg.413]

The volume highlights in the first chapter, written by Lemen and Wolfe, the discovery and the development of original palladium-based catalysts for C(sp )-N bond formation via the coupling of nitrogen nucleophiles and aryl/alkenyl halides and pseudohalides. The authors also report various applications of these transformations to the synthesis of useful compounds, including biologically active molecules and materials. [Pg.215]
